Variety reports that Gore Verbinski has been signed to helm a feature film adaptation of the hit video game "Bioshock," which was released on the XBox 360 last year. Universal Pictures will distribute the project. John Logan has been brought on to pen the screenplay.
"Bioshock" publisher Take-Two Interactive is getting a multimillion-dollar advance against gross points on the pic. The deal is reportedly structured so that the project does not get aborted, as in the case of Microsoft's deal with Universal and 20th Century Fox on the "Halo" movie.
"Bioshock" is set in an underwater city where a utopia once existed where humans were free to do whatever they wanted in the name of science. But something went terribly wrong and it is up to a pilot to find the truth after he discovers a secret entrance into the city.
