20th Century Fox is looking to breathe new life into the "X-Men" franchise and has hired "The O.C." and "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz to oversee a new film, with an eye to write and possibly direct it.
Variety reports that the studio is looking to do a new "X-Men" film titled "X-Men: First Class," though details of the project remain unknown. Marvel published a comic series titled "X-Men: First Class" in 2006 which focused on the younger X-Men, including Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat. It has been reported that the next "X-Men" film would likely focus on the secondary X-Men characters since it is unlikely players like Halle Berry would return for a fourth.
Marvel and Fox are also developing X-Men spinoff films, including next year's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" as well as "X-Men Origins: Magneto" and a Deadpool film. Deadpool will be introduced in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
Lauren Shuler-Donner, who produced the "X-Men" trilogy, will produce "First Class" along with Simon Kinberg.
