Variety reports that Universal Pictures will work on a U.S. remake of "The Host," the 2006 Korean horror thriller. Gore Verbinski (director of "The Ring" remake) will produce the film for first-time feature director Fredrik Bond.

The original told of "a town terrorized by a giant mutant squidlike creature hatched by toxins that flow into a nearby river from a military base. When the creature grabs a little girl, her dysfunctional family must band together to rescue her."
