Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal will be starring in a new film adaptation of "Damn Yankees," reports Variety. The original Broadway musical debuted in 1955.  Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script.

The musical is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Hairspray"). Jake will play Joe Boyd, a married middle-aged man whose love of a loser baseball team makes him do a deal with the devil (Carrey). The devil then transforms him into a slugger to help his team win the World Series.
