Director Gore Verbinski, who helmed the three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, will not be helming "Pirates of the Caribbean 4." Development on the fourth film is underway, according to Variety, but the film hasn't officially been greenlit.
Instead, Verbinski may direct the bigscreen adaptation of "Bioshock," which is in development at Universal and has a script by John Logan.
"Bioshock" is a first person shooter by 2k Games which has the gamer stepping into the shoes of Jack, a plane crash survivor exploring the abandoned, underwater city of Rapture. The city was once thriving but at Rapture, humans used to experiment on one another and now the city is overrun by mutated beings and mechanical drones.
"Pirates 4" is expected to begin shooting next year. It is unknown how Verbinski's departure will affect production. So far, Johnny Depp is the only cast member attached to the fourth film.
