Katherine Heigl will star in the romance drama "Life as We Know It" for Warner Bros. Greg Berlanti will direct the film while Barry Josephson and Paul Brooks will produce.

Variety reports that the film has been in development since 2001 and was originally written by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson.

The story tells of two adults whose worlds are turned upside down when their mutual best friends die in an accident and name them as caregivers for their orphaned daughter.
