Gary Ross, who directed Tobey Maguire in "Pleasantville" and "Seabiscuit," has come on board to rewrite the script for "Spider-Man 4."

Variety reports that Sony/Columbia is looking to put "Spider-Man 4" in production early next year. Tobey Maguire will return in the lead role with Sam Raimi directing once again.

"Spider-Man 4" was originally written by James Vanderbilt and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire.
